What Is Crash Gambling? From Bustabit to Stake Originals

Crash gambling started as a Bitcoin side project in 2014 and became the most played crypto casino game. Here is how it works, why it took over, how the house edge is built in and where to play it fairly.

Crash gambling is a casino game in which a multiplier rises from 1.00x and can “crash” at any moment; players bet before the round and try to cash out before the crash. It is the signature game of crypto casinos and, by volume, probably the most played casino original ever built.

A short history

The format was invented in 2014 as MoneyPot, a Bitcoin side project, and popularised as Bustabit: one shared round every few seconds, a public bet list, chat, and a transparent provably-fair scheme. Bustabit’s open design was copied — often code and all — by the first wave of CS:GO skin sites (Gamdom’s Crash dates to 2016) and then by every crypto casino that followed: Roobet (2019), Stake, BC.Game, Shuffle, Duel.

In 2019 Spribe released Aviator, a licensed provider version with a plane instead of a rocket and two bet slots. That brought crash into regulated markets and fiat casinos — Rainbet and Coins.Game carry it today — but at a 3% edge rather than the 1% of the best originals.

How a crash game works

Three steps: a betting window, a rising multiplier, a crash. The crash point is generated before the round from a server seed (and, on good sites, a client seed and nonce you control). The multiplier you see climbing is a visualisation of a number that already exists — which is why no timing, pattern or “predictor” can affect it.

Where the house edge lives

The standard formula from Bustabit is crash = (100 − edge) / (100 × r) with r uniform between 0 and 1, floored to two decimals and never below 1.00x. The “edge” term is the whole business model: with a 1% edge, 1% of rounds crash instantly at 1.00x and every multiplier is reached 1% less often than a fair game would. That is the entire house advantage — there is no hidden rigging on a provably fair site, and no need for one.

Game House edge P(reach 2x)
Stake, Shuffle, BC.Game, Roobet (originals) 1–4% 48–49.5%
Duel Zero Edge 0% 50%
Aviator (Spribe) 3% 48.5%
JetX, Spaceman and other provider crash 3–4% 48–48.5%

Why people play it

Speed (a round every 10–20 seconds), transparency (you can verify every result), sociality (shared rounds, chat, visible cashouts) and agency: unlike slots you decide the risk level of every single bet. It is also, by design, extremely good at producing near-misses, which is why bankroll rules matter more here than anywhere.

Where to play crash fairly

Pick an original with a published edge of 1% and a working fairness page — Stake, Shuffle or BC.Game — or Duel with Zero Edge on. If you want the biggest lobby and a usable bonus, Roobet. Our comparison table lists all nine with bonuses and promo codes.

It depends where you live. Crypto casinos running crash typically hold Curaçao or Anjouan licences and block regulated markets (US, UK, parts of the EU). Check your local law; this site does not offer gambling and is for information only.
